Look to the past for wisdom

Look to the sky expectant

Look and see the Endless Reign

This idea has been haunting me for more than a year. The figure is referencing a memory of mine from 2019. I was in a park in Ashland, Oregon, and saw a man in a traditional swimming costume carrying a giant sacred Book, covered with mysterious metal work and scroll work. He approached a pond where other people were swimming and he just stared at the water for 15 minutes sweating. Despite how prepared he was to swim he just turned around and walked away. I found this dude's social performance so profound. I immediately wrote it down and sketched the character, that eventually became Endless Reign.

The piece became a critique of traditional conservative religious values. While the text is “Endless Reign,” the character is prepared for "rain." As the 2020 election was cascading all over America, I observed the worst of American misguided faith in seemingly benign traditional institutions harden and exaggerate into a grotesque circus of ignorance. Endless Reign, is a warning against fanaticism and misinterpretation of traditional religious doctrines.
